Late-inning rally carries Lady Trojans over Hall, 9-8

A late-inning rally propelled the Mendota varsity softball team to a 9-8 win over Hall in Three Rivers Conference action on April 9 at Spring Valley.

Hall led 6-2 after four innings, but Mendota scored twice in the fifth and five times in the sixth to pull out the victory.

Mendota scored once in the second when Sydney Tolley singled and came around to score, and it added another run in the third when Emily Diaz doubled and later touched home plate.

The Lady Trojans had four hits and scored twice in the fifth to cut Hall’s lead to 6-4. Ava Eddy and Kirby Bond both doubled in the frame, while Diaz and Madelyn Becker delivered singles.

Mendota sent 10 batters to the plate in the sixth to take the lead. Picking up hits in the inning were Eddy (triple), Diaz (single), Bond (double), Tolley (single) and Abbie Kreiser (double). Ella Coss and Talia White drew walks to keep the inning going.

The Lady Devils tried to mount a comeback of their own with single tallies in the sixth and seventh innings, but came up one run short.

The Lady Trojans collected 15 hits in the contest, with Eddy, Diaz and Becker getting three hits apiece. Picking up two hits each were Bond, Tolley and Kreiser.

Eddy was the winning pitcher, going the distance and allowing 13 hits and seven earned runs. She struck out four and walked three.

Mendota and Hall met again on April 11 at the MHS field and the visitors came away with a 19-10 conference win.

The Lady Devils jumped out to an 8-0 lead, scoring seven times in the opening inning.

Mendota got on the board with a four-run third, all happening after two outs. Eddy and Diaz drew walks and then Becker, Bond and Coss had consecutive singles.

Hall padded its lead with five runs in the fourth and then the Lady Trojans responded with a five-run bottom of the inning. Mendota had just one hit in the frame, a single from Becker, while it had four walks.

Hall scored six more runs over the next three innings. Mendota completed its scoring with a run in the sixth. Diaz tripled and Becker singled her home.

Mendota (1-4, 1-2) collected 11 hits led by Becker with three singles and three RBI. Bond and Coss each had two hits.

Eddy was the losing pitcher.
