CHILLICOTHE – Illinois 4-H members from seven counties gathered to showcase their focus and skill at the annual Summer Sizzle Shoot, held June 7 at the Chillicothe Sportsman’s Club.
SPRINGFIELD – Waterfowl hunters should mark their calendars for upcoming waterfowl blind drawings at several public hunting areas in Illinois.
BLOOMINGTON – The Illinois Coaches Association and the Shriners of Illinois are proud to present the 51st Annual Illinois High School Shrine Game, scheduled for Saturday, June 21, at Tucci Stadium on the campus of Illinois Wesleyan University. Kickoff is at 11 a.m., with pregame festivities beginning at 10 a.m.
MENDOTA – The Mendota Quarterback Club donated $25,000 to the Mendota High School football program at the Quarterback Club’s annual golf fundraising event on June 13 at the Mendota Golf Club.
EARLVILLE – The Little Ten Conference softball coaches have selected players for All-Conference recognition for the 2025 season.
MENDOTA – Two Mendota Trojan baseball players garnered Three Rivers Conference East Division All-Conference honors for the 2025 season.
SPRINGFIELD – The 2025 Illinois Free Fishing Days celebration will take place June 13-16.

MENDOTA – Four Mendota softball players were recognized with Three Rivers Conference East Division all-conference honors for the 2025 season.
STILLMAN VALLEY – The baseball season came to a close for Mendota after it dropped an 8-1 decision to Byron in the semifinal-round of the Stillman Valley Class 2A Regional Baseball Tournament on May 21.
ROCHELLE – Mendota concluded its track season at the Rochelle Class 2A Boys’ Sectional Track and Field Meet on May 21. The Trojans did not qualify anyone for the state meet.
MENDOTA – There were not many events at the IESA Class 3A State Track Meet on Friday and Saturday, May 23-24, without a Northbrook School athlete since they were involved in 10 of them.
MENDOTA – Mendota survived inclement weather and a stingy Princeton team to win a 1-0 thriller over the Lady Tigers in the championship game of the Mendota Class 1A Girls’ Regional Soccer Tournament on May 20 at the MHS stadium.
MOLINE - A highly successful season for the Mendota girls’ soccer team came to a close after a 3-1 loss to Byron in the opening round of the Rock Island Alleman Class 1A Sectional Soccer Tournament on May 24 at Moline.
CHARLESTON - Only one girl had a better high jump than Mendota’s Mariyah Elam after all of the sectionals in the state, and it was the girl that bested her in the Sterling Sectional on May 14.
SAVOY – Mendota’s boys’ and girls’ bowling teams competed in the Brian Hodge Memorial Tournament on Jan. 6 at Savoy.
It was a rough weekend for the Mendota varsity boys’ basketball team as it was beaten by area rivals Princeton and LaSalle-Peru.
MENDOTA – Mendota had trouble shooting the basketball and Bureau Valley did not, which resulted in a lopsided 59-17 win for the Storm in Three Rivers Conference varsity girls’ basketball action on Jan. 4 at the MHS gym.
Princeton used a strong fourth quarter to claim a 49-40 victory over Mendota in a Three Rivers Conference sophomore boys’ basketball game on Jan. 5 at the Mendota gym.
AMBOY – Mendota wrestlers participated in the Amboy Junior Varsity Tournament on Jan. 6.
SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) will host two public meetings in Lee and Bureau counties to provide information about the recent detection of chronic wasting disease, its effect on free-ranging deer populations, and IDNR’s efforts to control the disease.
AMBOY – The Mendota Lady Trojans competed in the Amboy Holiday Tournament held Dec. 26-29. The squad finished in fourth place.
PLANO – The Mendota Trojans finished in 13th place in the Plano Christmas Classic held Dec. 27-30.
PLANO – The Mendota junior varsity boys’ basketball team finished in eighth place in the 16-team Plano Junior Varsity Christmas Classic.
