The Northbrook School soccer team had a good week against its opponents.
Northbrook School’s cross country team raced against two other schools at DeKalb Huntley on Sept. 5.
MENDOTA – Mendota native Patrick Goy has been playing golf since he was 10 years old - 23 years ago.
Mendota hosted Erie in a dual golf match on Sept. 3 at the Mendota Golf Club. The Trojan varsity squad came away with a 167-170 win.
KEWANEE – The Mendota girls’ tennis team made its first meet of the season a good one with a 5-0 triumph at Kewanee on Sept. 3.
OREGON – Mendota’s cross country runners joined 29 Northern Illinois teams for the Oregon Open on Sept. 7.
STERLING - When a football team scores touchdowns on offense, defense and special teams, it’s probably going to be a good day.
The Mendota Spikers opened up the Three Rivers Conference season with a 25-10, 25-8 loss to Hall on Sept. 3 at Spring Valley.
The Mendota varsity boys’ soccer team had an easy time in dispatching Riverdale, 9-0, on Sept. 3 at the MHS field.
Mendota finished second in a three-team varsity golf meet on Aug. 28 at Rochelle. The host Hubs took the top spot with a team total of 164, which was 10 strokes better than the Trojans. Amboy finished with a 187.
The Mendota Spikers opened up the 2024 volleyball season with a 21-25, 25-17, 19-25 loss to Putnam County on Aug. 27 at the MHS gym.
MENDOTA – Mendota’s lone win last football season was against Riverdale. The much-improved Rams made sure that didn’t happen in 2024.
The Mendota varsity boys’ soccer team opened the season with a convincing 9-0 victory at Oregon on Aug. 28.
PORT BYRON – Riverdale delivered a 53-0 shutout victory over Mendota in freshman-sophomore football action on Sept. 2 at Port Byron.
GENOA – The Mendota High School cross country team launched its 2024 season with races at Genoa-Kingston’s home course of Walcamp on Aug. 29.
The Mendota Trojan golfers hit their home links for the first time this season and came away with a triangular win over Princeton and Putnam County on Aug. 19.
OGLESBY – Twenty-seven Illinois Valley Community College athletes earned a spot on the 2023-24 National Junior College Athletic Association All-Academic Teams, which recognize student athletes across the country for their dedication in the classroom.
INDIANAPOLIS – More than eight million participants competed in high school sports in the 2023-24 school year – an all-time record and the first time ever that total participation has exceeded the eight-million mark.
SAVOY – Mendota’s boys’ and girls’ bowling teams competed in the Brian Hodge Memorial Tournament on Jan. 6 at Savoy.
It was a rough weekend for the Mendota varsity boys’ basketball team as it was beaten by area rivals Princeton and LaSalle-Peru.
MENDOTA – Mendota had trouble shooting the basketball and Bureau Valley did not, which resulted in a lopsided 59-17 win for the Storm in Three Rivers Conference varsity girls’ basketball action on Jan. 4 at the MHS gym.
Princeton used a strong fourth quarter to claim a 49-40 victory over Mendota in a Three Rivers Conference sophomore boys’ basketball game on Jan. 5 at the Mendota gym.
AMBOY – Mendota wrestlers participated in the Amboy Junior Varsity Tournament on Jan. 6.
SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) will host two public meetings in Lee and Bureau counties to provide information about the recent detection of chronic wasting disease, its effect on free-ranging deer populations, and IDNR’s efforts to control the disease.
AMBOY – The Mendota Lady Trojans competed in the Amboy Holiday Tournament held Dec. 26-29. The squad finished in fourth place.
