ROCKFORD – The Mendota girls’ track team put forth a solid effort in claiming three first-place finishes and a fifth-place showing in the team standings of the Rockford Christian Co-ed Invitational on April 20 at Rockford.

Mariyah Elam was a part of all three winning efforts for the Lady Trojans. She grabbed top honors in the 100-meter hurdles (16.92) and the high jump (4-9.75), while she ran one of the legs of the winning 4x200-meter relay team, which was clocked in 2:00.3. Other runners were Grace Wasmer, Laylie Denault and Aby Buettner.

Mendota scored 63 points in the meet, which was won by Rockford Guilford with 142.5 points.

In the boys’ meet, the Trojans were 11th in the team standings with 21 points. Rockford Guilford won the event with 165 points.

Mendota’s best finish went to Sebastian Carlos, who was second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.74.
