Lady Trojans top Plano; drop 4 league games

Mendota scored many of its runs early and then held on for a 9-8 triumph over Plano in a non-conference varsity girls’ softball game on April 13 at the MHS field.

The Lady Trojans pushed across two runs in the first and four in the second to take a 6-0 lead, but Plano plated six runs in the top of the fourth to tie the game.

Mendota regained the lead with a run in the bottom of the fourth and then Plano took its first lead of the game with two tallies in the sixth. But Mendota responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull out the win.

The Lady Trojans picked up 14 hits, led by Ava Eddy with three doubles and a triple. Madelyn Becker had two doubles, a single and four RBI for Mendota, while Kirby Bond (single, double) and Abbie Kreiser (two singles) also had multiple hits. Kate Strouss drove in two runs.

Eddy went the distance in the circle and got the win.

Princeton built a big lead and Mendota never recovered in a 14-4 setback to the Lady Tigers in Three Rivers Conference play on April 15 at Princeton.

The home team exploded for nine runs in the second inning and it added four more in the third to take a 13-0 lead.

Mendota’s four runs all came in the fourth. Sydney Tolley delivered a double and drove in three runs in the frame.

The Lady Trojans finished with six hits. Becker supplied a pair of singles.

Eddy was the losing pitcher.

Bureau Valley blanked Mendota, 10-0, in an April 17 conference contest at Manlius. The Storm scored in all five innings in a game called by the 10-run rule

The Lady Trojans managed just one hit – a single by Bond – off of two Storm pitchers.

Ella Coss was the losing pitcher.

Princeton defeated Mendota for the second time in three days, 21-5, on April 18 at the MHS field.

The Lady Tigers led 12-1 after three innings and then scored nine times in the fifth.

Mendota tallied a single run in the third and two each in the fourth and fifth frames.

The Lady Trojans collected 12 hits, paced by Tolley with two singles, a double and two runs batted in. Eddy and Addison Perryman added two singles apiece.

Coss took the loss in the circle for Mendota.

Sterling Newman downed Mendota, 20-1, in conference play on April 22 at the MHS field.

It was an 8-1 score through four innings and then Newman erupted for 12 runs in the fifth to win by the 10-run rule.

Mendota managed only three hits. Becker drove in the lone run.

Coss, Eddy and Karissa Freeman were in the circle for the Lady Trojans.
