It was a rough start to the new volleyball season for the Mendota Spikers as they suffered a 25-3, 25-21 setback to St. Bede on Aug. 22 at Peru.
Alex Barrera and Myah Boelk tied for the team lead in service points with three apiece. Abby Phalen picked up three kills and seven digs, while Barrera led with four kills and Reiss Buettner collected 11 assists.

Sandwich had a little too much power at the net and clipped the Spikers, 25-21, 25-20, on Aug. 24 at the MHS gym.
Phalen and Barrera produced six and five kills, respectively, while Buettner helped set them up with 16 assists. Brandy Delao led the team with seven service points. Boelk added five service points and collected five digs.
