Mendota put up runs in bunches and sailed to a 13-2 win over Dixon in a Big Northern Conference varsity softball game on April 24 at the MHS field. The contest was stopped in the fifth inning because of the 10-run rule.

The Lady Trojans took a 1-0 lead in the first and then erupted for six runs in the second. Brandy Delao had an RBI single, Rylee Klema stroked a two-run double, Reiss Buettner delivered a run-scoring two-bagger and Emma Boatman socked a two-run homer to cap off the uprising.

Mendota continued its offensive barrage with four more runs in the third inning. Larkin O’Donnell’s two-run double was the big blow in the frame, while Klema added an RBI single.

The Lady Trojans finished off their scoring with a two-run fourth. Morgan Marquis plated a run with a single.

Mendota knocked out nine hits, with Klema (two doubles) and Eve Herbert (two singles) getting two hits apiece.

Boatman went the distance in the circle to earn the win. She gave up just three hits, one earned run, walked three and struck out three.

A huge first inning propelled Stillman Valley to an 8-2 triumph over Mendota in a league game on April 25 at the MHS field.

Stillman Valley sent 11 batters to the plate in the opening inning and seven of them scored. The Cardinals had five hits and Mendota committed three errors.

Stillman Valley scored just one more run over the next six innings, but the Lady Trojans could only muster up two tallies.

Mendota got a run in the fourth when Klema opened with a single and eventually came in on a ground out by Buettner.

Herbert had an RBI ground out in the seventh to plate Mendota’s other run.

The Lady Trojans finished with seven hits. Marquis had a pair of singles, while Buettner singled and doubled.

Klema was the losing pitcher, giving up seven hits, two earned runs and striking out 10.

Mendota jumped out to a big lead and posted a 14-2 conference win at Oregon on April 26.

The Lady Trojans scored six runs in the first inning and coasted the rest of the way. They had three-run innings in the third and sixth, the latter resulting in an early stoppage because of the 10-run rule.

Jenna O’Donnell and Buettner each singled, doubled and drove in two runs to pace the offense.

Klema was stellar in the circle, giving up five hits and one earned run to get the win. She walked one and fanned nine.

Mendota and Rochelle split a doubleheader on April 28 at the MHS field.

The Lady Trojans prevailed in the opener, 6-2. Boatman (single, double, one RBI), Klema (two singles, one RBI) and Anna Bokus (single, double, two RBI) paced the offense.

Klema was the winning pitcher.

Rochelle edged Mendota, 10-9, in game two. The Lady Trojans banged out 14 hits, including three each by Alex Barrera (single, double, triple, one RBI) and Buettner (three singles, two RBI). Also providing offensive support were Marquis (single, double), Klema (single, double, one RBI), Herbert (double, one RBI) and Bokus (single, two RBI).

Boatman and Klema were in the circle for Mendota.

A tight game with Genoa-Kingston went into extra innings where the Lady Cogs prevailed, 8-6, in BNC action on April 30 at the MHS field.

Mendota got an RBI single from Bokus to take a 1-0 lead in the second and then Marquis walked, stole second and third, and scored on a wild pitch in the third for a 2-0 Lady Trojan lead.

G-K put up back-to-back three-run innings in the fourth and fifth, but Mendota answered with three in the fifth and one in the sixth to tie. Klema walked with the bases loaded and Buettner delivered an RBI single in the fifth, while Marquis had a sacrifice fly in the sixth to drive in Larkin O’Donnell, who had tripled, to knot the game at 6-6.

The Lady Trojans had an excellent chance to win the game in the bottom of the seventh when Klema led off with a double and Jenna O’Donnell walked, but the next three hitters were retired and the game went to extra innings.

G-K scored twice in the eighth on two singles and a double, and then Mendota (16-8, 9-5) went down in order in the bottom of the eighth.

Mendota collected 12 hits, with Klema (single, double), Jenna O’Donnell (two singles), Boatman (two singles) and Larkin O’Donnell (single, triple).

Klema allowed 13 hits, walked two and struck out 10 in taking the pitching loss.
