The Mendota High School boys’ track team competed in a pair of indoor meets to start the 2018 season.

At Byron, the Trojans picked up four first-place finishes on March 8. No team scores were kept.

Earning top places for Mendota were Eddy Sandoval in the 200-meter dash (25.23), Jonathan Patino in the 400-meter dash (1:02.09), Eli Otterbach in the high jump (5-10) and Brett Mumm in the shot put (42-5.5).

Byron Indoor – March 8

Mendota 1st place:  Eddy Sandoval, 200m dash, 25.23; Jonathan Patino, 400m dash, 1:02.09; Eli Otterbach, high jump, 5-10; Brett Mumm, shot put, 42-2.5

Mendota 2nd place:  Jose Sandoval, 3200m run, 12:41.29

Mendota 3rd place:  Patino, 800m run, 2:24.25

Mendota 4th place:  E. Sandoval, 55m dash, 7.23; 4x400m relay (E. Sandoval, Preston O’Sadnick, Chris Sandoval, Patino), 4:08.22; Evan Stielow, shot put, 40-1.5

Mendota 5th place:  Tyler Preston, 400m dash, 1:04.3; Preston, long jump, 17-2; Cole Stremlau, shot put, 38-2.5

Mendota 6th place:  C. Sandoval, 200m dash, 27.93

The Trojans participated in the Gary Egler Indoor Invitational in Sycamore on March 14. The varsity squad scored 11 points and finished in the ninth position, while the freshman-sophomore team had 10 points and also finished ninth.

Eddy Sandoval had the highest finish for the varsity team, taking third in the 200-meter dash with a clocking of 25.61.

Cole Stremlau was second in the shot put at 38-0 in freshman-sophomore competition.
