MHS matmen come up short to four foes

The Mendota Trojans opened the new wrestling season with a triangular meet at Rockford Lutheran on Nov. 25.

The Trojans dropped a 30-18 decision to the host Crusaders. There were only two contested matches, with each team winning one. Sam Lawrence chalked up the victory for Mendota, pinning his opponent at the 3:38 mark in the 160-pound weight class. Ethan Hanaman (126) and Kailyn Jezewski (138) won by forfeit.

Mendota fell to North Boone, 54-12. Four matches were held, with the Trojans winning two. Hanaman picked up a pin in 1:32, while Ty Connelly posted a pin win in 4:19 at 170 pounds.

Mendota was back in action on Nov. 26 at Amboy against the host Clippers and Seneca.

The Trojans lost to Amboy by a 42-18 count. Mendota got forfeit wins from Hanaman, Jezewski and Connelly.

Seneca scored a 48-6 victory over the Trojans. MHS’s lone win went to Connelly by forfeit.
