KINGSTON – The Mendota High School cross country team opened its 2018 season at Walcamp in Kingston on Aug. 23 against runners from host school Genoa-Kingston, Hampshire, Harvest Christian, North Boone, Keith Country Day and Indian Creek.
The girls’ race of 39 was won by Lydia Camp of Harvest Christian (20:32). Mendota's top finish belonged to Tiffany Preston, placing 28th in a time of 27:14. Other finishes for Mendota belonged to Devin Wade (27:22), Gabrielle Brown (28:00) and Piper Artman (28:03).
Harvest Christian held the top team score of 23 points, followed by Genoa-Kingston (47), and Hampshire (56)
In the boys' run, Tristan Olpin (16:22) of Keith Country Day earned top honors in the race of 71. Ty Connelly finished in 22:17 for Mendota's best finish, while teammates Trent Stamberger (22:57) and Malte Hein (30:20) also represented the Trojans.
Hampshire tallied 30 to win as a team, followed by Harvest Christian (34), North Boone (87) and Genoa-Kingston (94).
