MENDOTA – One Mendota Trojan golfer extended his season by at least another week after participating in the Mendota Class 2A Regional on Oct. 3 at the Mendota Golf Club.
Austin Robinson carded an 89 in the regional, which was good enough to advance to the sectional round. Taylor Joyce finished with a 91 and competed in a three-hole playoff for the final spot for individual qualifiers, but he was eliminated after the first playoff hole.
Four other Trojans participated in the regional, but came up short of moving on to the next round. Zeke Hessenberger turned in a round of 97 and Mason Schuhler shot a 98, while Owen Wixom had a 106 and Sam Becker finished with a 109.
Mendota had a team total of 375, which tied for eighth place in the team standings. The top three teams advancing to the sectional are Rock Island Alleman (331), Geneseo (339) and Sterling (347).
The sectional will be hosted by Grayslake (Central) on Tuesday, Oct. 10 at Stonewall Orchard Golf Club in Grayslake.
