SANDWICH – The wrestling season came to a close for the Mendota Trojans after participating in the Sandwich Class 1A Regional on Feb. 5.

Mendota had four wrestlers in the competition. Cadence Thornton at 113 pounds and Rhett Watson at 132 pounds both finished in fourth place. The top three wrestlers in each weight class advance to the sectional.

Thornton lost both of her matches, while Watson finished with a 1-2 record. He pinned Caleb Fast of Elgin Harvest Christian Academy at the 2:45 mark of their first-round match.

Also competing for Mendota were Jose Hermosillo at 138 pounds and Lea Turner at 152 pounds. They dropped both of their matches.
