Trojans blank Oregon, win Streator Soccer Tournament

The Mendota varsity boys’ soccer team opened the season with a convincing 9-0 victory at Oregon on Aug. 28.

Isaac Diaz led the attack with three goals for the Trojans. Tallying one goal apiece were David Casas, Cesar Casas, Danny Garcia, Luis Ramirez, Aaden Castle and Hugo Falcon.

Assisting on three of the goals was Johan Cortez, while Ramirez, Mauricio Salinas and Kevin Herrera each had one assist.

Mateo Goy was in goal and recorded three saves.

The Trojans claimed the championship of the Streator Tournament on Aug. 31.

Mendota battled to a 0-0 tie with Streator to open the action and then defeated Limestone, 3-0, and Bloomington, 2-1, to take the title.

Cesar Casas had three goals on the day for the Trojans, while Johan Cortez and Danny Garcia had one goal apiece. Cortez also picked up an assist.

Eight Mendota players were named to the all-tournament team. They were Cesar Casas, Cortez, Sebastian Carlos, David Casas, Escatel, Mauricio Martinez, Cameron Kelly and Garcia.
