Trojan golfers have mixed bag on links

Mendota hosted Erie in a dual golf match on Sept. 3 at the Mendota Golf Club. The Trojan varsity squad came away with a 167-170 win.

Mendota’s Brody Hartt was the meet medalist with a 38. The next lowest score for the Trojans came from Dane Doyle at 41, followed by Jonas Fitzgerald with a 43 and Grady Jones with a 45. Collin Coss and Alex Holland both shot 50s for MHS.

Mendota made it a sweep as the junior varsity team defeated the visitors, 189-221.

Leading the way for the Trojans was Kooper Novak with a 43. Esten Otero and Maddox Rosales both had rounds of 48, while rounding out the lineup were Brody Kaecker (50), Ashtyn Stamberger (55) and Levi Ossman (68).

Mendota finished second in a triangular meet at Spring Valley on Sept. 4. The host Red Devils burned up the course with a sizzling round of 148. The Trojans checked in with a 165 and Rockridge scored 170.

Hartt turned in the low round for the Trojans with a 37. Doyle was three shots back with a 40, while Fitzgerald (43) and Jones (45) completed the scoring for Mendota. Coss (49) and Holland (52) also competed for MHS.

Landen Plym of Hall fired a 32 to claim medalist honors.

The Trojans claimed the junior varsity meet with a 182. Rockridge was second at 202, four strokes less than Hall.

Otero had the low score for Mendota with a 41. Also contributing to the scoring total were Nick Sheridan (46), Novak (47) and Rosales (48). MHS’s other two competitors were Stamberger with a 57 and Kaecker with a 61.

Brimfield (171) won a triangular with Mendota (177) and Orion (207) on Sept. 9 at Orion.

Three golfers – Hartt, Doyle and Jones – tied for the low score for the Trojans with 44s. Fitzgerald was one stroke back at 45, while Coss and Evan McPheeters both shot 52s.
