Trojans beat 3 foes, fall to Yorkville

The Mendota varsity boys’ soccer team had an easy time in dispatching Riverdale, 9-0, on Sept. 3 at the MHS field.

Isaac Diaz led the charge with three goals, followed by Johan Cortez and Cesar Casas with two goals apiece. Tallying one goal each were Sebastian Carlos and Luis Ramirez. Picking up assists for the Trojans were Cortez (two), Ramirez (one) and Sam Matura (one).

Mendota notched a 6-2 victory over Rochelle on Sept. 4 at the MHS field. The Trojans led 4-1 at the half.

Carlos and Cesar Casas each booted home a pair of goals for the Trojans, while Diaz and Cortez had one apiece. Assists went to Cortez (three), Carlos (one) and Aaron Venegas (one).

Mateo Goy was between the pipes and had five saves.

The Trojans cruised to a 7-0 triumph over Orion-Sherrard on Sept. 5 at Orion.

Cortez and Cesar Casas found the back of the net twice for Mendota to pace the attack. One goal each went to Diaz, Ramirez and Matura. Assisting the goal-scorers were Cortez with one, David Casas with two and Mauricio Martinez with one.

Goy had one goalie save.

Yorkville handed the Trojans their first loss of the season, 5-0, on Sept. 9 at Yorkville.

Goy had two saves in goal.

Mendota has a 6-1-1 record.
