MHS soccer team wins 4 straight

The Mendota varsity soccer team got back on the winning track with a 7-0 whitewash of Kewanee on Sept. 11 at the MHS field.

Cesar Casas and Johan Cortez led the attack, each with a pair of goals for the Trojans, while one goal apiece was scored by David Casas, Isaac Diaz and Mauricio Salinas. Picking up assists for Mendota were Diaz (one), Cortez (one), Mauricio Martinez (two) and Sebastian Carlos (three).

Mendota pitched another shutout, this time a 5-0 verdict at DePue on Sept. 12.

Diaz found the net three times to pace the Trojans. The other goals were tallied by Cortez and Cesar Casas. Cortez assisted on two goals, while David Casas and Carlos had one assist apiece.

The Trojans won both games they played in the Body Armor Series on Sept. 14 at Waukegan. Mendota’s record improved to 10-1-1.

MHS started off with a 2-1 triumph over Chicago Amundsen. Cortez and Cesar Casas had the goal and Martinez picked up an assist.

The Trojans rolled over Geneseo, 6-1, in the second contest. Cortez led the way with three goals, while Salinas, Carlos and Cesar Casas tallied the other goals. Assists went to Cesar Casas (one), Martinez (two) and Diaz (two).
