F-S gridders fall to Newman

MENDOTA – Sterling Newman shut down Mendota, 26-0, in freshman-sophomore football action on Sept. 10 at the MHS field.

The Comets led 16-0 at halftime, scoring on a 2-yard run in the first quarter and on a 1-yard run in the second quarter. They were successful on both two-point conversions.

Newman completed the scoring in the third period on a safety and a 1-yard run and two-point conversion.

The Trojan offense gained just 89 yards in the contest compared to 286 for Newman.

Mendota quarterback Gavin Stevenson rushed 10 times for 26 yards and completed four passes for 35 yards. Oscar Castaneda caught three passes and Cayden Taliani had two receptions.
