Spikers beaten by Princeton

PRINCETON – Mendota and Princeton always seem to have close battles on the volleyball court and the two teams’ first meeting of the 2024 season was no different. The Tigresses managed to hold on for a first-set victory, 25-23, and then used a long scoring run in the second set to post a 25-20 win on Sept. 10 at Prouty Gym in Princeton.

Mendota led the second set ,11-9, and then Princeton ripped off eight straight points to take control.

The Spikers got nine kills from Laylie Denault and 11 assists from Ella Martin to pace the attack. Ava Eddy and Zariah Escatel picked up nine and seven digs, respectively, while Escatel served for seven points, including two aces.

The loss dropped the Spikers to 3-8 overall and 1-2 in Three Rivers Conference play.

Mendota’s scheduled home match with Dixon on Sept. 11 was canceled.
