ALDERMANIC REPORTS

Alderwoman Vicki Johnson opened up discussion about a request from the Mendota Area Senior Services (MASS) for a $30,000 loan from the city. The council voted to approve the loan. The city attorney will draw up the necessary paperwork to proceed with the matter.

Alderman John Holland presented several items of business for the council’s consideration. The council adopted an ordinance for the Mendota Historic Preservation TIF grant as related to the 2022 TIF.

The council approved two redevelopment agreements – one with Escatel Development, LLC (Two Tonys on Main Street) and the other with Garcia and Arteaga (The Coffee Barn on Illinois Avenue).

The council also agreed to salaries for elected officials and approved an ordinance implementing a non-home rule sales tax.

Mayor David Boelk handled Alderman Leo Hochstatter’s business in his absence. During the report, the council approved a redevelopment agreement with HCC, Inc.

Alderman Jim Fitzpatrick had two items of business, including discussing an engineering agreement with Chamlin & Associates for the Safe Routes to School grant. The measure was agreed upon by the council.

Fitzpatrick announced that the city’s leaf vacuum program will begin on Monday, Oct. 14 and will continue for approximately six weeks, dependent upon the weather. The schedule for leaf pickup will be Monday for the First Ward, Tuesday for the Second Ward, Wednesday for the Third Ward and Thursday for the Fourth Ward. Friday will be used as a catch-up day. Residents wishing to have leaves picked up from their property must place them at the curb (not in the street) and the piles should not contain sticks or tree limbs.
