The Mendota Spikers opened up the 2024 volleyball season with a 21-25, 25-17, 19-25 loss to Putnam County on Aug. 27 at the MHS gym.

Leading the team in kills were Laylie Denault with nine and Elaina Reddin and Ella Coss with four apiece. Ava Eddy topped the club with 22 digs and Ella Martin led with 18 assists. Zariah Escatel provided four aces from the service line.

Mendota traveled to Amboy on Aug. 29 and the host Lady Clippers prevailed, 25-22, 25-23.

Denault drilled 10 kills, Martin collected 12 assists and Eddy had 10 digs and six points, while Escatel had six digs and two ace serves.
