Trojan golfers claim wins over Princeton & Putnam County

The Mendota Trojan golfers hit their home links for the first time this season and came away with a triangular win over Princeton and Putnam County on Aug. 19.

In varsity action, the Trojans fired a 171 to easily outdistance Princeton (193) and Putnam County (212).

Leading the way for Mendota was Grady Jones, who was meet medalist with a round of 40. Next in for the Trojans was Brody Hartt with a 41, followed by Dane Doyle (44), Tayven Orozco (46), Jonas Fitzgerald (49) and Evan McPheeters (59).

Mendota’s junior varsity squad also had an easy time in disposing of its opponents with a score of 189. Princeton was second with a 238 and Putnam County tallied 263.

The Trojans’ Esten Otero turned in the low round with a 46, while Kooper Novak and Collin Coss were just one shot back with 47s. Rounding out the MHS lineup were Nick Sheridan (49), Alex Holland (50) and Maddox Rosales (52).

The Trojans dropped a 175-186 decision at Sandwich on Aug. 20.

Hartt posted the low score for Mendota with a 43. McPheeters was one shot back with a 44, followed by Doyle at 47. The rest of the Trojan lineup consisted of Fitzgerald (48), Orozco (48), Jones (48), Sheridan (51) and Novak (54).

Mendota’s junior varsity squad had a 191 total to win by a wide margin over Sandwich (252).

Topping the Trojan card were Coss and Brody Kaecker with 46s. Otero was next with a 48, followed by Rosales (51), Holland (57), Levi Ossman (58), Ashtyn Stamberger (62) and Corbin Doll (67).
