Mendota and Somonauk hooked up in a tight soccer game that went to the Trojans, 1-0, on Aug. 25 at the MHS field.

Izaiah Nanez booted home the lone goal of the contest, while Yahir Diaz picked up the assist.

The Trojans allowed only one goal in five games to claim the Oregon Tournament championship held Aug. 27-28.

Mendota started out with a 2-1 win over Rockford East. Diaz and Jonathan Cortez had the MHS goals, while Manny Trejo picked up four saves in goal.

The Trojans banked Orion-Sherrard, 4-0, in their second game of the tournament. Finding the net for Mendota were Diaz, Nanez, Isaac Guzman and Iker Landeros. Ricky Orozco had two assists, while Diaz and Edgar Arteaga each had one assist.

Mendota dominated Schaumburg Christian, 7-0. Jasiel Watson paced the attack with three goals, while Arteaga scored a pair of goals, and Diaz and Landeros added one apiece. Diaz assisted on two goals, while Arteaga, Landeros, Kaleb Kleckner and Mauricio Martinez had one assist apiece.

It was another seven-goal explosion for the Trojans in a 7-0 whitewash of Riverdale in the fourth game of the tournament. Diaz and Josue Arteaga had three goals apiece to lead MHS to victory. Nanez tallied the other goal. Nanez also collected a pair of assists, while Orozco, Arteaga and Rafael Romero each recorded one assist.

In the championship match, Mendota posted a 2-0 win over Woodstock. Diaz and Cortez got the Trojan goals, with Diaz assisting on Cortez’s. Trejo had one goalie save.

It was yet another shutout for the Trojans as they rolled over DePue, 9-0, on Aug. 30 at the MHS field.

Diaz tallied three goals and an assist to lead the charge. Cortez and Watson added two goals apiece, while Orozco and Nanez also found the net. Orozco and Luis Garcia picked up assists.

Mendota improved to 8-0 on the season, with seven of those wins being shutouts.
