The Mendota Spikers split a pair of Three Rivers Conference matches and dropped a nonconference contest last week.

Mercer County claimed a 25-21, 25-20 victory over Mendota in league play on Sept. 30 at the MHS gym.

Laylie Denault supplied seven kills, Ella Martin provided 15 assists, and Ava Eddy and Zariah Escatel had six digs apiece for the Spikers.

“Both teams were evenly matched but too many missed serves probably doomed us,” said Mendota coach Demi Salazar.

The Spikers bounced back to post a 25-22, 25-16 triumph over Hall on Oct 1 at the MHS gym.

Denault led the net attack with nine kills and Martin set up the offense with 15 assists. Eddy led with seven digs while Escatel had three ace serves.

“It was a well-played match with multiple long volleys,” noted Salazar. “Hall was our biggest loss this season (25-10, 25-8 on Sept. 3), so we kind of used it to benchmark our progress. We have a month to keep improving.”
