Kewanee shuts out F-S gridders

MENDOTA – Kewanee did all the scoring in a 25-0 victory over Mendota in freshman-sophomore football action on Oct. 7 at the MHS field.

The Riveters tallied a pair of first-quarter touchdowns on runs of 63 and 49 yards. They added another score before the half on a 9-yard TD pass to take an 18-0 lead to the locker room.

The teams played a scoreless third quarter and then Kewanee finalized the scoring on a 55-yard interception return in the fourth frame.

Mendota finished with 204 total yards but could not get in the end zone. The Trojans rushed for 173 yards with Jayden Lesley gaining 111 yards on 15 carries. Javier Hernandez completed one pass for 31 yards to Cole Tillman.

Kewanee generated 259 yards of offense – 141 on the ground and 118 in the air.

The Trojans’ record dropped to 0-5 on the season.
