MENDOTA – Riverdale posted a 34-27 win over Mendota in Three Rivers Conference varsity girls’ basketball action on Dec. 22 at the MHS gym.

The visitors held a 9-7 lead after the first period and took a 19-11 advantage to the locker room. The margin ballooned to 10 (27-17) after three quarters before the Lady Trojans made a slight comeback in the fourth to get it under double digits.

“We had 53 shot attempts, which is a lot for us, so I like that we got looks,” said Mendota coach John Hansen. “We really need to make more shots, though. And we still had way too many unforced turnovers. Our defense was good, so we were able to force a lot on them as well, we just need to score more.”

Riverdale held a big advantage from the free throw line where it had 29 attempts and 17 makes compared to Mendota’s two of eight from the stripe. The Lady Trojans were whistled for 21 fouls and the Rams had nine.

Katie Jenner pumped in 12 points and collected four steals to lead Mendota, while Reanna Brant supplied six points and yanked down nine rebounds. Paige Manning topped the Lady Trojans with 10 caroms and five blocked shots.

Mendota’s records fell to 1-8 overall and 0-3 in league play.

Riverdale claimed a 20-8 victory in the freshman-sophomore game. Cassie Gonzalez netted six points for Mendota.
