PLANO – The Mendota varsity baseball team dropped its season-opener, 10-6, at Plano on March 21. The game was halted after six innings because of darkness.
Plano opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. Mendota pushed across single tallies in the second and third frames to knot the score, but the Reapers erupted for five runs in the bottom of the fourth to forge in front. The Trojans pulled to within one with a run in the fifth and three in the sixth before Plano scored three times in the bottom of the sixth, and the game ended there because of darkness.
The Trojans picked up five hits, led by Izaiah Nanez with two singles and an RBI. Emilio Perez added a double for Mendota.
Dominik Stamberger got the call on the hill for Mendota and pitched into the fourth inning before being relieved by Landon Kreiser. Stamberger allowed seven hits, seven earned runs, struck out five and walked three in absorbing the loss. Kreiser pitched an inning and a third, then gave way to Ryne Strouss.
