WEST CHICAGO – The Mendota Lady Trojans hung tough for three quarters before fading in the fourth as they dropped a 49-26 decision to Wheaton Academy in the opening round of the Somonauk Class 2A Girls’ Regional Basketball Tournament on Feb. 12 at West Chicago.

The game was tied 14-14 at intermission and then Wheaton Academy forged in front 25-21 after three quarters. The deciding factor came in the fourth when the Lady Trojans scored just five points and the Warriors erupted for 24. Mendota was as close as six down with about four minutes to go, but Wheaton Academy knocked in three straight three-pointers to pull away.

“What a game to end on,” said Mendota coach John Hansen. “We played our best game when it mattered and nearly pulled it out.”

Paige Manning led the Mendota attack with 13 points, 11 rebounds and three steals. Reanna Brant provided eight points and eight caroms, while Katie Jenner had three steals and three assists.

The Lady Trojans concluded the season with a 4-22 record.
