Mendota girls to open regional at Wheaton Academy

SOMONAUK – The Mendota Lady Trojans will participate in the Somonauk Class 2A Girls’ Regional Basketball Tournament to be held Feb. 12, 14, 17.

Two games will be played on Saturday, Feb. 12, both at the schools of the higher seeds. Mendota will travel to West Chicago (Wheaton Academy) for a 7 p.m. tip-off and Sandwich will make the short trek to Somonauk.

The winners of the Feb. 12 games will advance to the semifinal round on Monday, Feb. 14 at Somonauk.  Elgin St. Edward will await the Somonauk-Sandwich winner for a 6 p.m. contest, while Aurora Central Catholic will take on either Mendota or Wheaton Academy at 7:30 p.m.

The championship game is slated for Thursday, Feb. 17 at 7 p.m.

The winner of the Somonauk Regional will move on to the Johnsburg Sectional to meet the champion of the Oregon Regional on Tuesday, Feb. 22. The other sectional participants will come from the Woodstock Marian and Rockford Lutheran regionals.

2 – (12) Mendota at (6) West Chicago (Wheaton Academy) – 7 p.m.

Monday, Feb. 14

3 – (2) Elgin (St. Edward) vs. Winner Game 1 – 6 p.m.

4 – (3) Aurora (Central Catholic) vs. Winner Game 2 – 7:30 p.m.

Thursday, Feb. 17

5 – Winner Game 3 vs. Winner Game 4 – 7 p.m.
