Solid play from all involved resulted in a 25-21, 25-17 victory by the Mendota Spikers over Hall on Sept. 6 at Spring Valley.
The net play was superb, led by Myah Boelk with 10 kills. Peyton Baird added eight kills, while Abby Phalen had seven. They were set up by Ella Massey, who accumulated 23 assists. Phalen topped the team with eight service points, Larkin O’Donnell had five service points and eight digs, and Boelk contributed five service points. Baird recorded a pair of blocks.
Mendota’s sophomores rolled to a 25-7, 25-14 victory, while the freshman Spikers made it a clean sweep on the night with a 25-11, 25-19 win.

The Spikers won two of three matches and finished second in the Pontiac Tournament on Sept. 8.
Mendota opened play against Route 251 rival LaSalle-Peru and the Lady Cavs prevailed, 26-24, 25-16. Baird and Phalen connected for eight and six kills, respectively. Larkin O’Donnell led the team with seven service points and Massey was tops in assists with 16. Boelk, Phalen and Larkin O’Donnell each had eight digs, while Phalen had a pair of blocks.
Mendota and Pontiac slugged it out for three sets before the Spikers were victorious, 25-22, 18-25, 15-8. Boelk led the attack at the net with 11 kills and Massey sparked the offense with 20 assists. Three players had strong efforts at the service line with Phalen (10), Jenna O’Donnell (eight) and Baird (seven) leading the way. Also, Larkin O’Donnell came away with six digs and Baird posted three blocks.
Mendota (8-3) concluded the tournament with a 25-22, 25-16 win over Herscher.
