MHS harriers compete against Oregon, Lutheran

OREGON – Mendota High School’s cross country team participated in a Sept. 18 race at Oregon along with runners from Rockford Lutheran.

In the girls’ race, Lauren Spangler of Lutheran traversed the 3-mile course in 22:15 to take first place.

Mendota’s top finish belonged to Nataliya Durbin (16th, 26:06). Additional Mendota finishes: Bianka Valdez (20th, 27:04), Alayna Nosalik (21st, 27:05), Jamie Dooley (24th, 27:34) and Val Valdes (30th, 28:56).

Rockford Lutheran and Oregon both had 28 points, with Lutheran winning with the sixth runner. Mendota finished with 85 points.

In the boys’ race, Oregon’s Ryan Hussung had the top finish with a clocking of 18:49.

Mendota was led by Trent Stamberger’s 19:52 (5th), Andrew Stamberger and Ty Connelly (both 20:07).  Rounding out the Trojan effort were Alex Hermosillo (11th, 20:32), Eli Arjes (12th, 20:45) Dagen Setchell (14th, 21:06), Billy Hall (17th, 22:08) and Sam Lawrence (21st, 27:42) 

Oregon posted the top team score of 36, while Mendota and Lutheran each tallied 43. Mendota won the tie-breaker with Setchell defeating Lutheran’s sixth man.

The Trojans will race again against Rockford Christian and Winnebago on Saturday, Sept. 26 at the Lake Mendota course.
