MENDOTA – Kenneth Andrew Arjes, 75, of Mendota, passed away Thursday, Oct. 3, 2024, at his home.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2024, at the Horner-Merritt Funeral Home in Mendota. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, at the funeral home with Chaplain Jay LaRette officiating. Interment will follow at Restland Cemetery in Mendota.

He was born on Aug. 18, 1949, in Mendota, to Jake and Shirley (Locke) Arjes. He married Connie Davis on Aug. 29, 1969, at the Compton United Methodist Church.

Ken is survived by his wife, Connie (Davis) Arjes; three children, Ken (Kim Montez) Arjes Jr. of DePue, Michelle (Matt Hazelwood) Shaver of Mendota, and Aaron Arjes of Wisconsin; four brothers, Denny (Connie) Arjes of Oregon, Kevin (Cindy) Arjes of Marseilles, John Vanderpool of Arizona, and Hank (Missy) Vanderpool of Spring Valley; nine granddaughters, Kendra (Cole) Johns, Kayli (Robert) McMillen, Karlee Arjes, Kelsey (Adam Umek) Sweger, Tatyanna Carreon, Faith Baratta, Hope Baratta, Talia White, and Tasian Arjes; one grandson, Chandler (Sofia Forney) Arjes; four step-grandchildren, Mercedes Ruiz, Anthony Tyson, Hunter Tyson, and Ivy Tyson; one step-great-granddaughter, Cali McMillen; one great-grandson, Declan; and his beloved dog, Chippy.

In addition to his parents, Ken is preceded in death by his step-mother, Peg Arjes, and step-father, Ray Vanderpool; two sisters, Sharon Murdock and Pam Wallace; and one brother, Gary Arjes.

He attended Mendota High School with the class of 1967. He was employed by the City of Mendota from 1983 and was Superintendent of Streets and Parks for 16 years prior to his retirement in 2008. He enjoyed golf and cherished his 1963 Chevy Super Sport Car. He was a Chicago Bears fan and was able to watch the game on Sunday, Sept. 29, when they beat the Los Angeles Rams.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Arjes, Ken Arjes Jr., Aaron Arjes, Chandler Arjes, Matt Hazelwood, and Mark Davis with honorary pallbearers Denny Arjes, John Vanderpool, Hank Vanderpool, Zach Vanderpool, Kyle Davis, Anthony Tyson, Hunter Tyson, and Adam Umek.
