MENDOTA – Christopher H. Faletto, 71, of Mendota, passed away Sept. 27, 2024, at OSF Saint Paul Medical Center with his wife by his side.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2 at Wasmer Funeral Home. Services will be at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Mary Bohall officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded. Wasmer Funeral Home is privileged to assist the family.

Chris was born Jan. 8,1953, in Peru, to Phillip and Beverly (Baker) Faletto. He spent his childhood in the LaSalle Peru area, graduating from L-P High School in 1971. Chris married the love of his life, Catherine Schmidt Walter on July 22, 2016, in Ottawa.

Chris will be forever missed by his loving partner of 21 years (and his kidney donor), Cathy of Mendota, daughters, Dana Faletto of Chicago, Liana (Sam Parks) Faletto of Chicago, Joanie (Myles Emmons) Faletto of Chicago; brother, Jon (Cheri) Faletto of Ft. Myers Beach, Fla.; sister, Lisa (Kevin Davis) Faletto of Valparaiso, Ind.; stepsons, Jacob (Elizabeth) Walter of Chandler, Ariz., Cory (Jenae) Walter of Germany; grandson, James Roland Walter; Godson and nephew, Steven (Kelsey) Faletto, and niece Rachel Faletto. Chris will be missed by his bonus family, Cathy's dad, Bill (Judy) Schmidt; siblings, Karen (Joe) Happ and Bob Schmidt, and their families, and lifelong best friend, Ken Funfsinn (you know a story was good if "Kenny was involved"). His furry sidekick, Pokie the Dog, will remember his human daddy forever.

He is preceded in death by his parents, nephew Dominic Davis, and grandson Ayden Walter.

Chris attended Illinois State University on a football scholarship from '71-75 with a B.S. in Industrial Technology — and Chris definitely had BSing down to a science. He could banter with the best, and loved to entertain anyone who would listen to his many wild stories (up to the listener to determine how embellished his stories were). He had a rapier wit and highly developed sense of the ridiculous. Chris’s musical knowledge was extensive. His favorite place was anywhere with his wife and daughters, especially on his boat — whether that be on the Illinois River or off the coast of Ft. Myers, Fla.

Chris was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity, and every Thursday morning coffee club at Hy-Vee.

He owned and operated Faletto Hardwood Floors in Chicagoland for over 40 years and claimed to have done nearly every floor in Chicago in those 40 years.

Memorials may be directed to Illinois Valley Animal Rescue IVAR, or to the family. Condolences may be left at wasmerfuneralhome.com.
