MENDOTA - Martha L. Shafer, 86, of Mendota passed away peacefully at OSF Saint Paul Medical Center, Mendota.
There will be no services. Arrangements were handled by the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota.
Marty was born Feb. 17, 1932 in Yorkville, Ohio to T. Phillips and Stella (Pontia) Cole. She married Donald R. Shafer on June 20, 1953 in Wilkinsburg, Pa. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Lynn (Peter) Bausher of Mendota; one son, Donald K. Shafer of Penn Hills Pa.; four grandchildren, Cole Hillstrom and Craig Hillstrom, both of Lake Orion, Mich., Keith Hillstrom and Kira (Justin) Setchell, both of Mendota; three great-grandchildren, Dagen and Lumen Setchell and Holli Hillstrom; one brother, Robert (Loretta) Cole of Monroeville, Pa.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one brother, Phillip “Burl” Cole.
Marty lived in Pittsburg, Pa. (Penn Hills) and N. Ft. Myers, Fla. prior to moving to Mendota. She was an avid Steelers fan and spent winters in Florida where she had a home. She loved to read, quilt, play Bingo and cook. She will be forever in our hearts.
