AMBOY – Harold (Junior) Becker, 83, died Sunday, April 21, 2024, after a brief battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 25 beginning with a 10 a.m. prayer service at the Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy, followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick Church in Amboy with Father Gaw officiating. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery in Maytown. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 24 from 3-7 p.m. with the rosary recited at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. 

He was born May 14, 1940, to Harold and Mary (Kelly) Becker. He married Mary Payne in Dixon on Oct. 8, 1971.

He is survived by his children, Maureen, Colleen, Marty, Cindy and Connie Becker, Karen (Andy) Jones and Sharon (Jeff) Edmunds; grandchildren, Sean, Natalie and Ashley Becker, Allison, Alexandra and Brady Jones; great grandchildren, Hayley and Liam Becker; sister-in-law, Wilma Gascoigne; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his sister Shirley (Sister Maureen); two brothers-in-law, Bill and Mike Payne; and two nephews, Dave and Doug Payne.

After graduating from Saint Bede, he joined his father as a lifelong farmer in Maytown. Other occupations included working for G & L Electric, Eisenberg Tiling and Lilja Excavating. After retiring, he enjoyed bartending at Mort’s Tap and was a self-taught electrician who loved putzing around on washers, dryers and odds and ends.

He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Amboy as well as the Knights of Columbus. His loves included watching his grandchildren’s sporting events and dance recitals. He also enjoyed bowling, playing cards, checkers and doing word finds. He truly took joy in making everyone around him laugh. He could play the accordion and organ by ear. He loved dancing the polka with his wife.
