MENDOTA - Floyd D. Setchell, 93, of Mendota passed away April 8, 2018 at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 13 at First United Methodist Church, Mendota with Rev. Kent Svendsen officiating. Family interment will be held on April 14 at Restland Cemetery, Mendota. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. on Friday at the church. The Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota is handling the arrangements.

Floyd was born March 4, 1925 in Mendota to Clifford and Ethel (Stone) Setchell. He married Elaine Spears on Feb. 15, 1946 and they celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary this year.

Survivors include his wife of Mendota; four sons; John (Teresa) Setchell , Jeff (Diane) Setchell and Tim (Julie) Setchell, all of Mendota and Tom (Jane) Setchell of Ottawa; one daughter, Carol (Paul) Ramer of Mendota; 14 grandchildren, John D., Toby, Justin, Tyler, Brad and Will Setchell, Matt Ramer, Joanne McNally, Jessica Sondgeroth, Katy Mathes, Tricia Leigh, Lauren Wallenberg, Mindy Matney and Michelle Beaty; two step-grandchildren, Matt Westerman and Kristen Saylor; 28 great-grandchildren; five step-great grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and two sisters, Myrtle Hitchins of Peru and Ruth Heagy of Bend, Ore.

He was preceded in death by one son, Charles in 2006, and one brother, William Setchell.

Floyd was a 1943 graduate of Mendota High School and farmed on the east side of Mendota his entire life. He worked many years at Birkey’s Furniture Store and then established the Setchell Agency in 1977. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge 176, Mendota Shriners and Mendota Elks Lodge 1212.
