Storm coats Mendota in ice

MENDOTA - An overnight storm left significant ice accumulation throughout the Mendota area on Feb. 12. The storm was followed later in the day by strong winds that downed some of the ice-covered power lines and also damaged some smaller tree limbs around town. The wind, which at times gusted to 40-50 mph, caused widespread power outages at Mendota homes and businesses. Com-Ed crews worked in bone-chilling conditions to restore power as quickly as possible. Meanwhile, the Mendota Police Department encouraged residents to stay off of area roads, which were covered in ice causing numerous accidents including several on Interstate 39.
