MENDOTA – A 16-year-old Mendota boy was killed in a one-vehicle traffic accident at 7:50 p.m. April 18. The accident occurred north of Mendota on Route 251 just south of North 45th Road.
According to a report from the LaSalle County Sheriff’s Office, a 2002 Mercury Sable driven by Madrick L. Musgrove of 362 N. 45th Road, Mendota, was northbound on Route 251 when the vehicle went off the east side of the roadway, striking a tree and causing the vehicle to split in half. The subject was ejected from the vehicle and was located deceased.
At the time of the crash, the light condition was dusk and the road surface was wet.
In addition to the Sheriff’s Office, other emergency units responding to the scene included the Mendota Police Department, Illinois State Police, Mendota Fire/EMS, Troy Grove Fire and the La Salle County Emergency Management Agency.
The incident is under still investigation by the La Salle County Sheriff’s Office, La Salle County Coroner’s Office and Illinois State Police Accident Reconstruction Investigation Division.
