City Council gives FY17 audit, OKs annexation and variance

MENDOTA – The Mendota City Council handled several items of business at its Dec. 18 regular meeting. Alderman Bill Hunt served as mayor pro-tem in the absence of David Boelk.

In aldermanic reports, alderman Kyle Kim presented a proposal to amend the wage ordinance specific to police chief Tom Smith and the measure was approved by the council.

Alderman John Holland announced that the fiscal year 2017 audit will be placed on file.

During alderman John Pierson’s report, the council approved an ordinance annexing certain property, specifically that of Joanne Miller at 2101 Guiles Ave.

Also, Pierson presented a zoning variance request from Jeffrey Bonnell at 1106 Main St. to build a garage on an existing slab next to the house. The request was approved.

In action from alderman John Hessenberger’s report, the council adopted a sexual harassment policy in accordance with the Illinois General Assembly.

Hunt, speaking for Mayor Boelk and himself, wished city employees and all citizens of Mendota a Merry Christmas.

The next regular meeting of the Mendota City Council will be Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, at 6:30 p.m.
