CHARLESTON – Two members of the Mendota girls’ track team participated in the IHSA Class 2A Girls’ State Track Meet held May 18-20 at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.

Sophomore Lydia Willis competed in the discus and finished in 12th place. She just snuck into the finals after placing 12th in the preliminaries with a toss of 111-11. She could not better that throw in the finals and remained in the 12th position after the competition ended.

Tayla Schwarz of Dixon came away with the discus state title with a measurement of 142-0.

Senior Mari Biers was entered in the 300-meter hurdles. In the preliminaries, she ran a time of 49.40, which was not fast enough to advance to the finals.

The state title in the 300-meter hurdles went to Karyn Best of West Chicago (Wheaton Academy) with a time of 43.49.

Dunlap claimed the Class 2A team championship.
