POLO- Mary “Joyce” Franklin, 66, of Polo, died April 5, 2018 at Rock River Hospice and Home in Sterling.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 10 a.m.-noon on Saturday, April 28 at the McDonald Funeral Home, 505 1stAve., Sterling. Memorial service will follow at noon at the funeral home with Rev. Christina Berry officiating.
Joyce was born Jan. 2, 1952 in Evansville, Ind. to Charles and Mary Jane (Lynch) Williams.
Survivors include two sons, Tony Franklin of Mendota and Andrew Franklin of Polo; one daughter, Krista (Matt) Blum of Polo; five grandchildren, Kyle, Kayla and Molly Blum, Brandon Franklin and Elana Franklin; two sisters, Judy Schell and Janet (Greg) Thomas; three brothers, Jim (Linda) Williams, David (Mary) Williams and Mark Williams; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one niece, Amanda Williams.
Joyce graduated from Mendota High School in 1970 then graduated from the nursing program at IVCC in 1972. She worked for 34 years as a registered nurse in the OB department at Mendota Community Hospital and then on the surgical floor at CGH Medical Center in Sterling, before retiring in 2015. She always cherished the women she worked with. She enjoyed painting and traveling but most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren.
