KINGSTON – The Mendota High School cross country team opened its 2017 season at Walcamp in Kingston on Aug. 24 against runners from host Genoa-Kingston, Hampshire, Harvest Christian, and Indian Creek.
The girls’ race fielded 36 runners, with Nygia Pollard of Harvest Christian winning in 17:57 on the 3.0 mile course. Mendota's top finish belonged to Tiffany Preston, finishing 19th in a time of 24:31. Other finishes for Mendota belonged to Devin Wade (28:40), Piper Artman (29:13) and Gabrielle Brown (29:13).
Harvest Christian held the top team score of 19 points, followed by Hampshire (58), and Genoa-Kingston (66).
In the boys' run, Harvest Academy's trio of Mark Davila, Andrew Dabrescu and Mathew Olech topped the field of 51, finishing in a pack at 15:57. Ty Connelly recorded his first race time of 24:43 for Mendota.
Harvest Christian again tallied 19 points to win as a team, followed by Hampshire (40) and Genoa-Kingston (81).
