COMPTON - Fern E. Eggers, 98, of Compton, passed away May 9, 2017 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 15 at Compton United Methodist Church in Compton with Pastor Dave Holden officiating. Interment will be at Melugin Grove Cemetery, Compton. Visitation will be from 4–7 p.m. on Sunday, May 14 at the Torman Funeral Home, Paw Paw.

Fern was born July 31, 1918 in Bradford Township to Willard Edward and Maye (Gerbers) Wilson. She married Leo H.J. Eggers on March 26, 1939 in Ashton. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include one son, Richard (Nancy) Eggers of Paw Paw; one daughter, Linda Dombrowski of Compton; nine grandchildren, Kevin (Michelle) Eggers of Indianapolis, Kristine (Scott) Meadows of St. Charles, Jason Eggers of Glen Ellyn, Anthony (Theresa) Eggers of Grimes, Iowa, Justin (Rachel) Eggers of Hinckley, Michelle (John) Hilleson of Lee, Sue (Robert) Bertenshaw of Seattle, Wash., Michele (Don) Faletti of Peru and Karissa (Greg) Pettet of Peru; and 30 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; one sister; and one brother.

Fern farmed with her husband in the Compton area for many years. She was very active in the Compton community and served as a Cub Scout den mother, past matron and long-time member of the Juanita Chapter OES 391 and 4-H leader. She was a long-time and active member of the Compton United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was also a member of the Lee County Farm Bureau.
