MENDOTA - Father Jack Schauble, 84, previously a resident of the Mendota Lutheran Home, passed away Nov. 12, 2018 at OSF Saint Paul Medical Center, Mendota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 30 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Dixon with Father Wesley Hill officiating. Private burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Barrington at a later date. Merritt Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Jack was born May 13, 1934 in Barrington to Fred and Neva (Duncan) Schauble.

Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Sandra Jones-Schauble; three children, Katherine (Jeff Smith) Schauble, Gregory (Amy) Schauble and Lynn Schauble, all of whom he shared with his former wife, Patricia Faellaci; and two grandchildren, Ian Smith and Max Echevaria.

Jack graduated from Elmhurst College and attended seminary at both General Seminary (NYC) and Seabury Western, where he graduated with a Masters of Divinity. He also attended Jane Addams School of Social Work at the University of Illinois, Chicago, graduating with a Masters in Social Work. Father Schauble was a life-long priest in the Diocese of Chicago. As a priest, he served a number of parishes including The Church of the Holy Comforter in Kenilworth, St. Paul’s in LaSalle, St. Anne’s in Woodstock and St. Jude’s in Rochelle. He also served as an interim priest at St. Luke’s in Dixon, All Saints in Appleton, Wis., Grace Church in Sheboygan, Wis. and Grace Church in Galena. He was a counselor, teacher and priest at Northwestern Military and Naval Academy in Lake Geneva, Wis. In addition to serving as a priest in the Anglo-Catholic tradition of the Episcopal Church, he also worked as a counselor for LSSI in Oregon.

Upon his retirement from the active priesthood, Jack again returned to school and obtained an AA degree in horticulture from Illinois Valley Community College. He then went on to get his Master Gardener’s Certificate and was active in the Master Gardeners of Lee County. Although he shared his talent for growing things with many, his home northwest of Compton on 17 wooded acres (including a log home for which he was the contractor) was a garden showplace. Jack also served as a trustee for Viola Township in Lee County. Jack raised and showed Weimaraners and later with his wife, Sandra, raised and showed English Springer Spaniels and later, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, many to their championships.
