PERU - The Illinois Valley Area Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development (IVAC) will hold a Business Breakfast Seminar at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 8 at Mario’s Maples in Peru.

Join the discussion with LaSalle County Sheriff Tom Templeton as he shares decades of experienced leadership and presents ways to enhance the quality of leadership within an individual or organization.

A lifelong resident of the Illinois Valley, Tom graduated from Hall High School and Illinois Valley Community College. He then joined the U.S. Air Force where he worked in Intelligence Operations. After the military, he went on to pursue a career in law enforcement, successfully completing basic police training and going on to attend the FBI National Academy and University of Virginia, Illinois Sheriff’s Management Institute and National Sheriff’s Institute, as well as the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Institute. Throughout his extensive career, Templeton has received more than 2,500 hours of law enforcement education in numerous fields in the criminal justice field.

Templeton has worked in the LaSalle County Sheriff’s office for over 40 years, beginning as a deputy in 1973 and then moving up to sergeant (1975-1978), lieutenant (1978-1992), captain (1992-1998), Tactical Team commander (1990-1998), and from 1998 to the present as LaSalle County Sheriff. In 2015, he served as president of the Illinois Sheriff’s Association.

Throughout his years as a civil servant, Templeton has received 28 letters of commendation; sat on nine boards, commissions and community service organizations; served as a member of 13 different associations; and has been a guest lecturer and presenter for a number of local organizations.

A hot breakfast buffet will be served beginning at 7:15 a.m. and the program starts promptly at 7:30 a.m. Reservations must be made by calling (815) 223-0227 no later than noon on Tuesday, Aug. 7. The breakfast is open to the public.
