ROCHELLE – Mendota High School’s tennis season ended in the Rochelle Class 1A Sectional on May 17-18.
In singles play, MHS’s Logan Brandner dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision to Dillon Nitz of Sterling, while teammate Josh Wiley was beaten by Sterling Newman’s Brady Moran, 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles, Aaron Brandner and Noah DeLong teamed up for the Trojans and lost by a 6-3, 7-5 count to Geneseo. Mendota’s other doubles team of Preston Lewis and Taylor Joyce was defeated by Sterling, 6-4, 6-4.
Sterling won the sectional team title with 23 points. Geneseo came in second with 18 points, followed by Rock Island Alleman (17), Sterling Newman (14), Burlington Central (10), Dixon (10) and Princeton (6). Mendota, Rochelle and Rock Falls did not score.
