OGLESBY - University of Illinois Extension - Bureau, LaSalle, Marshall, Putnam Unit invites the public to a Regional Beef Cattle Meeting and dinner on Wednesday, Jan. 23. The event will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Illinois Valley Community College, Oglesby in Room CTC 125.
Various topics will be covered intended to help beef cattle producers make profit driven decisions. Understanding the factors that influence cattle production and a look into what to expect in the coming year will be discussed. Travis Meteer, Beef Specialist, University of Illinois Extension, said many producers will find interest in cow nutrition discussions and the subsequent effects they have on reproduction. “Let’s face it, getting cows bred should be at the top of everyone’s list,” Meteer said. “Calving season is always an important, exciting time. Come get some calving season tips and gain more knowledge about your herd health’s role in profit.”
Speakers and topics include: Evaluation of Heifer Development System/Impacts of Long Range of Beef Cattle Production by Dr. Dan Shike, professor, University of Illinois; Beef Production in Brazil by Lucas Neira, Master’s thesis candidate, University of Illinois; Controlling Costs in a Beef Operation/Effects of Extended Drylot Housing of Beef Cows by Travis Meteer, University of Illinois Extension; and Illinois Performance Tested Bull Sale Update by Travis Meteer.
