MENDOTA – The Illinois Valley Hispanic Partnership Council will celebrate its 21st Annual Cinco De Mayo Festival on Friday, May 3 from 5-8 p.m. at the Tri-County Fairgrounds in Mendota. The event is to celebrate cultural awareness.

Everyone is invited to attend this free event to see local Folkloric dancers and to win some fabulous prizes. Some other features of the festival will include authentic Mexican food vendors, 50/50 raffle, information booths, children’s activities, queen, mini-king and mini-queen contests, and entertainment for all.

Cinco de Mayo commemorates the victory of the Mexican army over the French during the Battle of Puebla in 1862. To this day, Cinco de Mayo is celebrated in several U.S. cities with a significant Mexican population including the Illinois Valley.
