MENDOTA – It’s about time for the leaves to change color and begin falling from the trees, and the city of Mendota can help you get rid of them. The start of the leaf vacuum program and several other items were discussed at the Mendota City Council meeting on Oct. 7.
Alderman Jim Fitzpatrick announced that the city’s annual leaf vacuum program will begin on Tuesday, Oct. 15. Pick-up will be on the day after your garbage collection. The leaves should be placed at the curb (not in the road) and must not contain sticks or branches.
Alderman John Pierson presented an annexation petition from Mike and Catherine Wasmer for land commonly known as 192 E. U.S. Highway 52. The council approved sending the petition to the Plan Commission. The Plan Commission will meet to consider the request at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28 in the city council chambers.
Pierson announced a Building Committee meeting will be held at 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14 to discuss occupancy permits.
Alderman Bill Hunt, who served as vice mayor in Mayor David Boelk’s absence, said a recent meeting with members of the Mendota Fire Department, EMTs and first responders to discuss staffing went well.
Trick-or-treat hours in Mendota will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31.
The next regular meeting of the Mendota City Council will be Monday, Oct. 21 at 6:30 p.m.
