PERU - Candidates are being sought for a free pilot diabetes prevention program at Illinois Valley Community Hospital.
Illinois Valley residents at risk for developing the disease are invited to attend an introductory meeting at 6 p.m. on Monday, April 24 in the IVCH room at Peru Mall.
Those attending the meeting will be able to take a diabetes risk assessment quiz, meet IVCH lifestyle coaches, and learn what can be done to help them prevent or delay type 2 diabetes.
Deb Redd, IVCH certified diabetes educator, said women who have gestational diabetes and anyone who has a family member with type 2 diabetes will especially benefit from attending the meeting.
Redd said one in three adult Americans has a condition called prediabetes but probably does not know it. She said prediabetes is a serious warning that type 2 diabetes is on its way.
