OGLESBY – Illinois Valley Community College’s student directors and their casts will present their work at “Director Showcase” at 7 p.m. Monday, May 15 in the Cultural Centre. The event is free and the public is welcome to attend.
Students enrolled in “Directing for the Theatre,” taught by instructor Don Grant Zellmer, each picked a 20-30 minute one-act play to direct with an open call for auditions so the student directors could cast their shows. As they met to rehearse, Zellmer observed and met with them for discussion.
The class is made up of community members and students Ashley Hurst and Matt Boehm of Peru, Chad Brokaw of Princeton and Karen Lesman of La Salle.
“This course is a relatively new addition to the theatre department with the first offering just this past fall. It gives our students firsthand experience as a director of a production. It’s a great experience for them and a significant enhancement to our theatre program,” said Zellmer.
