OTTAWA - Anyone whose real estate taxes are not paid as of Friday, Oct. 5 will receive a certified letter from LaSalle County. James Spelich, LaSalle County Treasurer, said the certified letters will be mailed by Oct. 5.
Taxpayers are reminded that the drop box in Ottawa will be closed on Oct. 5 at 8 a.m.
Oct. 5 will also be the last day the county will accept personal checks. After Oct. 5, they will only accept certified funds such as a cashier’s check, money order or cash brought to the office.
A $10 certified letter fee will be added to any payments received in the treasurer’s office after Oct. 5. Please note that the interest changes after the 6th of each month. For amount due, call the office at (815) 434-8219 or refer to your tax bill.
Oct. 12 will be the last day to pay taxes prior to property owners with unpaid tax bills being published in the newspaper. On Nov. 12, the option to pay taxes using a credit card will end.
During the week of Oct. 15, unpaid taxes will be published in local newspapers.
Nov. 14 will be the last day to pay tax bills before they are sold at tax sale. The county will accept payments until 4:30 p.m. on that date. No payments will be accepted after Nov. 14. All unpaid taxes will be sold on Nov. 15.
